plants
I can hardly remember when I noticed my Dad is
fond of gardening. It must have been very long ago.
Balcony and terrace were always full of flowers
wherever we lived.
I may proudly say his petunias were quite known
in the neighbourhood.
On the other side Mom can care of the most common
plant and it will dry up...
Seems I took after Daddy. I just love them... and
I get that love back, they grow for me...

I am going to mention here only the plants I have in my house
or garden in Croatia, or ones that I used to grow for years.
So each one of them is familiar to me, and I can answer any
questions considering their care.
As for the healing herbs, I too used them for a long time, even
some I did not put in here, but I only decided to write about
plants I know perfectly well how to handle.
I know there are heaps of herb-sites on the net and I am not
doing anything new. Stil, my experience comes from practice
and love for growing things, and if you have any questions or
comments about it, e-mail me and I will be more than happy
to answer.
I am not sure of all the plants names in English, so I am going
to list their photos under Latin names mostly.

It seems that my interest for
plants dates more than 30 years
ago... here I am at age of 3,
inspecting something very interesting
about oleander flowers we had
growing in front of the house.

Famous tree in Drage,
the big oak, probably old more
than 100 years.
Some tourists asked me last
summer: Do you live at that
property where is that big old
oak standing?, and since the
house has no name yet...

Loggia at my parents apartment...
Since Dad got older, he is not
growing that many plants anymore,
but some of them are stil there,
being his special pride and joy.
Red and violet Bougainvilleas are
maybe the two most dear to him,
specially the red one for its
unusual color.

This is one of mine... one of
the rare plants that got a
name, we used to call it
Beethoven.
Olga is posing for the photo,
to show how big Beethoven is.

One more of my Fathers special
pets on the loggia, Lantana.
There were couple of them in the
garden in Drage, but someone simply
stole pink and orange ones. So Dad
dig up the last, red one, and
planted it in a pot.

The photos I used on next three pages are taken from the
books I own for quite a time, and learned a lot from them:
IL TUTTOVERDE - F. Bianchini, A. C. Pantano
ZIMMERPFLANZEN - E. Thomas
SOBNE, OKENSKE IN BALKONSKE RASLINE - F. Vardjan
Couple of photos were taken by friend visiting last summer.
Few of the photos (dahlia and dandelion) I found on the
internet, some time ago, so I cannot give the credit to the
photographer.
Some are taken in my garden, and since all these plants are
growing around my house and inside it, I am going to replace
the photos with my originals as soon as I manage.
